    About me

    Ecology and restoration are my passions. I hold a PhD in ecology and have undertaken projects investigating mangrove and seagrass ecology, co-ordinated mass transplanting of seagrass to restore lost seagrass habitat off the south west Australian coast, and investigated how marine production subsidies influence arid terrestrial systems. I have also investigated low impact methods for assessing groundwater contamination.

    Currently my research is focused on bringing Miyawaki forests into our urban environments to increase urban biodiversity and rewild our urban landscapes. My project is in the form of a dedicated science research project and a community outreach program to schools, in which the children act as citizen scientists.

    I feel the importance of bringing the ideas of environmental awareness and stewardship to the next generation. Miyawaki forests are a fantastic way of introducing nature into schools and the community, and to enable children and the community to feel that they can make a difference.

    2020 to present: Co-supervisor for PhD candidate, thesis investigating use of emerging technologies to support improved environmental outcomes.

    2020 to present: Co-supervisor for PhD candidate, thesis entitled “The application of info-gap decision theory on population threshold for cost-effective eradication of Asian House Gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus) on Barrow Island”.

    2019 to present: Co-supervisor for PhD candidate, thesis entitled “The biosecurity risk and risk mitigation of imported fresh cut flowers and their role as a pathway for invasive insect species”.

    2019 to present Co-supervisor for PhD candidate, thesis entitled “The cost/benefit of environmental offsets, and the optimisation of ecological, economic and social priorities”.

    2017-2020 Co-supervisor for PhD candidate, thesis entitled “Remote islands are vulnerable to non-indigenous species: utilization of data analytics to investigate potential modes of introduction and pest interceptions”. Candidate graduated in September 2020.
