    About me

    After completing my electrical engineering degree at Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany, I first worked as a research engineer on automotive power supplies in the Electrical Drives Department at Daimler Benz Research and Technology in Frankfurt. I then moved to Perth where I completed my PhD studies in Power Electronics at Curtin University. Since 2000 I am with Murdoch University where I was principally involved in the development and coordination of the Renewable Energy Engineering Degree. I am currently the academic chair for the Master of Engineering (Electrical Engineering Majors) and lecture primarily in Renewable Energy Engineering. My research interests are in grid connected Photovoltaic system technology. During 2007 I worked with Verve Energy and gained experience in sustainable energy business development. I am a member of ISES, IEEE and the Institution of Engineers Australia.

    Teaching area

    I am currently teaching and coordinating the following units: ENG442 Renewable Energy Systems Engineering, ENG615 Engineering Masters Project, and ENG337 Applied Photovoltaics. I am also teaching in the units ENG550 Design Project and ENG339 Wind and Hydro Power Systems.

    Research areas

    My research interests are in areas of photovoltaic system technology, converters for grid connected photovoltaics and grid integration of renewable energy systems.

    Current projects

    Distributed Energy Resources Trials in Carnarvon – a collaborative research project with Horizon Power funded by Horizon Power and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) (2017-2020)

    This project is concerned with a series of practical trials, experiments and studies in Carnarvon with the aim of increasing distributed Photovoltaic and battery system hosting capacity in remote microgrids.

    The research aims to overcome technical constraints associated with a high-penetration distributed energy resource future. It seeks to explore efficient ways to design and manage a remote microgrid with very high levels of distributed energy resources and with that reduce the dependence on fossil-fuel generation.
