BIO152 (Cell Biology), BIO246 (Microbiology I) and BIO378 (Systems Biology).
BIO152 is a first year unit that aims to provide fundamental concepts that operate in a diverse range of cell types
BIO246 is second year unit that provides an overview of microbial cell structure and function and which highlights the importance of microorganisms in specific ecological niches.
BIO378 is a third year unit that aims to provide a more integrated role of the biological importance of cell components, cells or even organisms in different systems, a role which might not be possible to understand by studying individual components alone.
Research areas
My research focuses on prokaryotic structural, functional and comparative genomics to understand pathways required for signal perception, communication, adaptation, symbiosis, and virulence. My current research investigates the genomic determinants within root nodule bacteria (RNB) that govern the establishment of a successful nitrogen fixing symbiosis with specific legumes. This research has a strong international collaborative context and involves 30 scientists from 15 countries across the globe.
